A change in how Doorkeeper is priced

Monday, July 25, 2016

Up until this point, Doorkeeper has only taken a share of prepaid tickets sold through us, and otherwise has been completely free for everyone to use. Unfortunately this hasn’t proved a sustainable business model for us, so going forward we’ll be charging all organisers a monthly fee.

We know this sucks, and as organisers you already invest a ton of time putting on great events for your community, so the last thing we want to do is put another burden on you. However, we want to continue to build a product that’s focused on your needs, and so we’ve concluded that charging all organisers is the best option (more details behind our reasoning here). We hope that you continue to support us going forward.

You can find the details of the different pricing plans on our pricing page. If you’re already an organiser, you’ll continue to be able to use Doorkeeper as before until August 31st, no payment required. If you sign up for a paid plan by August 14th, we’ll give you a 20% discount. Even if you sign up early, we won’t start charging you until September 1st. More details about what plan applies to you can be found on your billing page.

If you don’t sign up for a paid plan, from September 1st you’ll no longer be able to publish new events or send out community messages. Existing events that have already been published will function as normal: participants will still be able to register and you’ll be able to send messages to them. You’ll also be able to export your community members (which includes their name and email). By changing to a paid model, we’re not trying to lock you in, and if you decide there’s another way you’d rather hold your event, we’re saddened that we’re losing you, but we’ll do our best to make the transition smooth for you.

Of course, we’re hoping that you’ll stick with Doorkeeper. By continuing with us, you’ll have an even greater role in shaping the future of Doorkeeper than before. We welcome any feedback or questions you have for us.
